Kenny Gelfand, Ph.D.

Photo of Kenny GelfandDr. Gelfand has been with PRA since 2004. He completed his undergraduate work at Johns Hopkins University and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He completed a pre-doctoral internship in pediatric psychology at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center, specializing in anxiety and children with diabetes.

In addition to his work at PRA, Dr. Gelfand currently serves at the Director of Outpatient Psychology Services at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, and has a clinical appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In 2004, Dr. Gelfand received the Maryland Psychological Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Education and Training of Psychologists.

Dr. Gelfand specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents with autism-spectrum disorders (including Aspergers Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disability and Pervasive Developmental Disorder NOS), ADHD, anxiety and oppositional defiant disorder. Treatment often involves helping to reduce behavioral difficulties, improve academic performance, and build appropriate social skills through cognitive-behavioral techniques. Most of the therapy is family based, and relies on caretakers being significant participants in therapy. When appropriate, Dr. Gelfand is also available to consult with schools both for informal conferences with school staff, or for formal IEP team meetings.
